Open arms/Open mic

Metro Emergency Communications

I’m performing this as a sarcastically very serious number during our dispatch week awards banquet. “Open Arms” by Journey, with my re-written lyrics:

Working beside you, here in the dark. Was that your traffic or mine?

Softly you transmit, I say 10-9 (repeat). I thought I unclicked my mic.

It’s 2 in the morning, We’re half asleep

when we’re tired, dispatch gets weird

So not I talk to the room, with open mic

the city’s confused with the words that I say

I sing Coolio (one of my actual open mics)

and everyone laughs at my public gaffe, open mic

Working in dispatch, we’re never alone, when it’s not busy we talk.

Taking online tests, which animal are you?

Then we compare our results

And you have traffic, so answer it now,

and you still have your foot pedal down

So then I run to you, saying, “Open mic!”

But it’s just too late, they hear what you say:

The online test says you’re a polar bear

It’s suddenly clear, the whole city hears, your open mic.
