Dispatcher : The unseen Artist

SURCOM

Here in the dispatch center, countless days and hours are spent asking questions. Some would argue that it is our most frequent task. WHO,WHAT,WHERE,WHEN,WHY? Question after question… It’s a never ending stream of new and fluid information that we are responsibleĀ  to organize, condense and redistribute. But when you really think about what’s happening when you are asking those questions you will see that what we do as dispatchers, is much much more then simply information in and information out. Dispatching is truly an art, and here’s why. When you ask all those question’s you have a blank canvas in front of you, an empty screen, call log, etc. When you start diving into those questions however, you are creating a beautiful, detailed andĀ  specific work of art. You paint a picture that can be translated to an officer for a scene that you are not even at! Vehicle descriptions, hair color, direction of travel, sounds, interactions just to name a few. Not to mention, all this information is obtained from an RP who could be screaming or crying, in fear for their lives or just having witnessed a horrific crime. We see the calls, not with our eyes, but with our minds. And if you ask me, that’s a superpower worth recognizing.
