Go US Coast Guard!!
As a component of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as well as a member of the US Armed Forces, the United States Coast Guard (USCG) carries out a myriad of statutory missions. The Command Center at USCG Sector San Francisco serves as the Central Processing Unit for these missions and is responsible for dispatching the appropriate resources. Whether its Search & Rescue (SAR) operations, pollution response, law enforcement boardings or escorts, among several others, the venerable personnel (a mix of both military & civilian personnel) stationed at the Command Center process it all. While the personnel stationed at the Command Center are not the ones actually responding to the missions, they are responsible for sending the right teams out to carry out the missions. In an average week, the Command Center’s diligent efforts, quick response times, and routine liaising with local, state, and federal partners are directly responsible for saving 6 lives and nearly $1 million in property. Thus, the personnel stationed at the Command Center are truly the unsung heroes of the Greater San Franciso Bay Area!
